Frequently asked questions.

Where should I stay? (Very important - please read!)

A few months ago, we asked most of you if you were interested in a staying onsite at The Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara. Based on your response, we reserved a block of rooms and each is available at a discount of around 58%! As I am typing this the retail rate for a King Guest Room (almost sold out by the way!) is $1,109++. Your rate is $499++.

Double Queen Guest Rooms are no longer available!

Please, please, please call us as soon as possible if your plans have changed so we can do our best to accommodate changes to the room block.

How do I get to Santa Barbara?

We highly recommend flying straight into Santa Barbara Airport (SBA), which is 8 minutes from our venue. There are direct flights from Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Seattle, Las Vegas, Phoenix, San Francisco, Oakland, San Diego and Los Angeles. Looking to do a little L.A. exploration before heading up to Santa Barbara for the big day? Fly into Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and rent a car or take the Pacific Surfliner (Amtrak) from downtown Los Angeles to Santa Barbara. Forewarning: LAX is about 100 miles / 2-hour drive from our venue and downtown Santa Barbara. Malibu, Calabasas and Ventura are all along the way up to SB!

Returning Home: If you choose to fly into LAX, please plan accordingly for your flight back home. Allow yourself at least 4 hours before your flight departure time!

What should I wear?

All of you know full well that Thomas and I are not fashion forward gays. We’re also not denim-is-okay-at-weddings gays. It’s spring in Southern California, so it’s not black tie. Actually, we’re not even going to pretend to know what we’re talking about so please just see below for language I copied from BRIDES or something like that. LOL

Ladies

  • Pack a shawl. You might be dying to wear your favorite summer cocktail dress, and that's fine. Just accessorize it with a warm shawl that you can drape around your shoulders, especially if any part of the wedding is outside.

  • Grab a statement coat. Sometimes, an outfit is all about the coat. If you'll be celebrating outdoors, opt for a simple spring wedding guest dress and up the wow factor in the form of a patterned or colorful coat to complete your look.

  • Pump it up. Spring sandals and strappy heels are adorable, but they won't keep your toes warm at a chilly garden wedding. Instead, stick to a pump or slingback that covers most of your foot. Odds are, they'll also be easier to dance in. Plus, if those spring showers roll through, you'll be set on that front too.

  • Rock a sleeve. Thanks to the transitional season of spring, you can totally rock wedding guest dresses with sleeves. From elbow-length to three-quarter to full-length, the choice is yours. Plus, they're the epitome of elegance.

Gentlemen

Wondering what color suit to wear to a spring wedding? Foley recommends one shade in particular. "Blues are a great suit color choice for spring weddings because of their versatility," she says. Colorful suits in less saturated hues (think: delicate lavender or cool sage green) are also good options, especially for daytime spring wedding attire, as well lighter shades of gray. If you want to show off a little signature flair, consider wearing a floral print ensemble.

Final note on clothes, it will be warm, to very warm in the afternoon. Everything is outdoors, so the sun will be hot (God willing). When the sun sets, the temperature will drop significantly and, I promise, you will be cold. Plan for that.
